Canada Must Stand Against Apartheid and Crimes Against Humanity in the Occupied Palestinian territories
May 10th, 2021
Justice For All Canada strongly condemns the repeated invasion of Masjid Al-Aqsa by the Israeli military and illegal Jewish settlers. As an occupied people, Palestinians have a right under international law to resist illegal evictions from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
The unfolding crimes against humanity in the region, which include settler colonialism, arbitrary detention, and murder are a textbook case of ethnic cleansing that provides yet another evidence of the charge of apartheid levied against Israel by the Human Rights Watch, as well as Israel’s own human rights organization B'Tselem.
We join the international community in expressing our outrage at Israeli police forces and politicians, who have relentlessly attacked Palestinians in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest religious site in the world for Muslims.
The Canadian Federal Government is urged to consult with B'Tselem and Human Rights Watch to understand why they are calling these events a crime against humanity. Urgent, multilateral action is required against the Israeli government-backed settler organizations actively targeting Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah. The eviction of families from their homes and ancestral lands remains unacceptable.
Immediate recommendations for restoring Palestinian human rights include:
“We must collectively express our skepticism that change is possible unless and until international justice systems seek accountability from right-wing Israeli policies and politicians targeting Palestinians,” said Taha Ghayyur, Executive Director of Justice For All Canada.
In 2009 alone, 67 Palestinians were already evicted from this neighbourhood. Justice For All calls on all allies, activists and action takers to stand against the oppressive occupation of East Jerusalem.

Immediate recommendations for restoring Palestinian human rights include:
- Immediately releasing detained Palestinian protestors who have peacefully expressed solidarity with Palestinian families facing eviction from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah
- Calling on the United States and Canadian federal lawmakers to stand up for and protect the 13 Palestinian families, who were ordered by the Israeli Supreme Court to leave their homes by May and August 2021
- Urging the Israeli Supreme Court to question illegal land claims submitted by Israeli settlers, and fairly investigate appeals submitted by Palestinian families challenging evictions

Take Action: 5 Actions In Solidarity with #Palestine
In addition to safe and peaceful public demonstrations, we encourage Canadians to use digital means to add their voices against the ongoing injustices.
Action #1
Send an automated email letter to the MPs, the Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Conservative Party Erin O'Toole, and Leader of the NDP Jagmeet Singh, to ask Canada do more to stop the violence and evictions of Palestinians
Action #2
Sign the online petition to the Federal Government to denounce attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque (Organized by NCCM)
Action #3
Tweet at Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs - Send a strong message against Apartheid in Palestine
Action #4
Call your MP and ask them to categorically condemn the outrageous attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque, as worshipers gathered in prayer on one of the holiest nights of Ramadan and demand an immediate halt to escalation in violence. Invite them to study the recent report by Human Rights Watch, which details the charges of crimes against humanity being committed by Israel
Action #5
Write to CBC on its silence about Israeli ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem! #SaveSheikhJarrah
