REPORT: Addressing Mass Incarceration, Ill-Treatment, and Weaponization of Emergency Prison Law for Palestinian PrisonersThis report outlines the alarming escalation of human rights violations against Palestinian prisoners within the Israeli prison system, including children, women, the elderly, and the disabled. Since October 7th, the enactment of emergency prison laws by the Israeli parliament has intensified arbitrary arrests, administrative detentions without formal charges, and systemic mistreatment of prisoners, including torture and enforced disappearances. Israel’s mass incarceration campaign has significantly increased and has led to a surge in detentions across Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel, subjecting detainees to deplorable conditions and denying them essential medical care.

Condemning the Silencing of Hindutva Discourse and Defence of Academic Freedom at Concordia UniversityJustice for All Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the egregious and undemocratic attempts to silence an educational program aimed at raising awareness about the impact of Hindutva fascism on minorities in India. The program was unjustly cancelled by Concordia University on August 15, 2024, after a coordinated smear campaign by right-wing Hindutva groups falsely claimed that the event was "Hinduphobic." We unequivocally condemn all forms of anti-Hindu bigotry. However it is crucial to understand that this event was not an attack on Hinduism, but rather a critical examination of the political ideology of Hindutva, a nationalist sentiment perpetuating violence and oppression against minorities in India. Disruptors of the program shockingly attempted to obscure the documented realities of Hindutva's atrocities, including ongoing religious and caste-based oppression and violence against India's minorities.

Marking India's Independence Day Amidst Ongoing Human Rights CrisesThis week marked India's Independence Day, a moment that the Canadian government commemorated with warm wishes and pledges of partnership, yet conspicuously omitted any reference to the ongoing human rights crisis under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration. While Canada celebrates the contributions of Indo-Canadians and values its Indo-Pacific partnership, this celebration can not be fully shared by the many marginalized communities in India. These communities continue to suffer under the oppressive policies and discriminatory practices of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Report: Palestine—Genocide, Apartheid, and OccupationThere is a growing consensus that Israel is committing a genocide as part of its military campaign. The persecution and discrimination faced by Palestinians arguably meets every stage of the “10 stages of genocide”, a common method of categorizing genocidal situations across the globe. The critical report confirms this reality by detailing the decades of persecution and explores the impact of this genocide on Palestinian children.
It is thus critical that the international community, including the United States and Canada, take action on an urgent basis to halt their complicity in the genocide in Gaza and punish the crimes committed by Israel. |
Law As An Instrument of OppressionThe Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) is an act that the government of India has instituted to prevent terror-related activities and activities that may endanger the sovereignty and integrity of India. However, according to Amnesty International and the United Nations, the UAPA does not fulfill international human rights standards. Since 2019, Police have booked more than 2,364 people under UAPA and nearly half of them are still languishing in jail inside and outside the Kashmir valley.
Using case studies, this detailed report dives into the application of the UAPA in Indian Occupied Kashmir and how it is structured and designed to repress dissent and human rights. The law criminalizes a particular set of beliefs or opinions that the government might deem unlawful or “anti-national”. |
REPORT: Critical Analysis of ICJ Order over Israeli Genocide in Occupied PalestineThe following report presents a comprehensive analysis of the International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s provisional measures order from January 26th, 2024, regarding the Israeli military aggression in Gaza. It highlights that the ICJ recognized a plausible case for genocide in Gaza, and ordered several interim measures ahead of a full trial on the merits. Using a human rights standpoint, the report assesses implications for humanitarian aid and ceasefire initiatives, followed by urgent recommendations for action to the Government of Canada to advance peace and accountability in the region.
