Justice For All Canada strongly condemns the recent arrest of Kashmiri students under the draconian law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), following the Indian cricket team's defeat in the World Cup.
We express deep concern about the misuse of the UAPA, which we believe is an anti-minority law, violating international legal principles.
The UAPA's broad and vague definitions provide the Indian government with extensive powers, enabling the targeting and persecution of religious minorities, particularly Muslims.
This law has been consistently exploited to curtail civil liberties, and its misuse raises serious human rights concerns.
The alarming statement by a BJP politician suggesting that Kashmiris should be “skinned alive”, coupled with the denial of the right to self-determination for Kashmiris, clearly demonstrates not only hatred but also genocidal intent.
These statements underscore the genocidal tendencies among the BJP politicians.
The Genocide Convention of 1948 obliges all nations to monitor aggressor states that, under the guise of democracies, repress their religious minorities.
As India claims to be the world's largest democracy, the use of anti-minority laws to suppress dissent is contradictory.
Justice For All Canada urges the Canadian government to condemn these actions and initiate a parliamentary investigation into the persecution of minorities in India. It is crucial to uphold the principles of democracy and human rights on a global scale.
