JFA Canada Commends the Parliamentary Subcommittee on International Human Rights for Urging Government Intervention on Uighur Genocide
On October 22nd, Canadian Parliamentary Subcommittee on International Human Rights released a bold report demanding actionable items from the Canadian Government on behalf of Uighur Muslims and Turkic minorities in East Turkestan (Xinjiang, China).
On behalf of our Save Uighur campaign, we express our hope and optimism that the Uighur genocide, especially the ongoing human rights violations against Uighurs and Turkic ethnic minorities, have finally been recognized by Canadian Parliament.
This significant and historic first step was undertaken by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. We are gratified to those Honourable Members of Parliament for drafting the 5 actionable demands, which include the Canadian Government sanctioning Chinese authorities responsible for horrendous human rights violations.
As a democratic nation with a global reputation for upholding international human rights, Canada and the Canadian Governemnt must oblige by international treaties to protect Uighur and Turkic Muslims from genocide.
We highlight the tireless activism, advocacy and strong voices of Canadian/global activists whose hearts are lit with the Uighur cause. We also thank Canadian Uighur and human rights organizations, including our own partners and supporters, who tirelessly propel the right messages of solidarity, tolerance and human rights of Uighurs in East Turkestan.
Our gratitude goes out to Hon. MP Peter Fonseca MP, Hon. MP Kenny Chiu, Hon. MP Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe, Hon. MP Iqra Khalid, Hon. MP Heather McPherson MP, Hon. MP Scott Reid, MP, Hon. MP Anita Vandenbeld and Hon. MP Sameer Zuberi.
