Justice For All Canada to Hold Press Conference on Palestinian Prisoners' Plight In the Israeli Prison System
January 31st, 2024 - Justice For All Canada, a nonprofit human rights advocacy organization, will host a press conference on February 2nd on Parliament Hill to shed light on the dire situation faced by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons. The media event will feature Palestinian academics and other experts to discuss the urgent need for Canada to intervene and address mass incarceration, ill-treatment, and the weaponization of emergency prison law targeting Palestinians in administrative and arbitrary detention.
Date of Press Conference: Friday, February 2nd, 2024 Time: 10 a.m. EST
Location: 135-B, West Block, Parliament Hill, Ottawa, ON
Speakers:
Background: After October 7th, 2023, the Israeli government has intensified its campaign of mass arrests, resulting in the detention of thousands of Palestinians, including children. Reports from rights groups detail instances of torture, starvation, and denial of fundamental rights within Israeli prisons. Recent developments, including the passing of a new Israeli Prison Emergency Laws, have worsened conditions for detainees, resulting in egregious human rights violations. Press conference speakers will argue that the prolonged detention of Palestinians without charges constitutes a grave violation of international human rights standards.
Recommendations for the Canadian Government:
