Justice for All Canada would like to thank Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his strong statement defending Canada's human rights and national security interests. In an official address to the House of Commons today, Prime Minister Trudeau unequivocally condemned and denounced India's involvement in the tragic killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh leader who was shot dead outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18th, 2023.
Prime Minister Trudeau firmly stated, “Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty," confirming that the findings of Canadian intelligence agencies have established a credible link between Mr. Nijjar's assassination and the Indian state under nationalist Prime Minister Modi, leader of the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“In the wake of these developments, we express hope that the Canadian government will address the root cause of this tragedy by committing to safeguarding minorities in India, who face similar persecution both within India and abroad,” said Taha Ghayyur, Executive Director of Justice For All Canada.
For several months, Justice for All Canada has been calling on the Canadian government to investigate the issue of foreign interference by the Modi government, particularly through the release of our major report entitled “The Nazification of India.” Our extensive study delves into the escalating prominence of Hindu supremacy in India, shedding light on the pervasive BJP state persecution faced by religious minorities. Insights from this report serve as a significant contribution to monitoring, safeguarding and preventing the export of Hindutva influence into North America.
If a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil can be targeted by Modi’s government, it must be dreadful and terrifying for Indian Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Dalits living in India while opposing state-sponsored injustices and rising Hindutva extremism.
Prime Minister Trudeau initiated discussions on this issue during the recent G20 summit in New Delhi, where he directly conveyed his concerns to Prime Minister Modi.
In a strong rebuke to India’s interference and its role in the assassination of Mr. Nijjar, Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized that such actions run "contrary to the fundamental rules by which free, open, and democratic societies conduct themselves." Canada's subsequent expulsion of an Indian diplomat marks a significant step in combating Hindu nationalism in Canada, delivering a clear message to the Modi government about the gravity of this violation occurring within Canadian borders.
With this recent finding on the Indian government's brazen interference and assassination of an individual in a foreign country, we reiterate our concerns for the safety of millions of religious minorities facing unprecedented levels of state-sponsored injustice and Hindutva mob violence in India.
The Indo-Pacific Agreement should not proceed. Given the current circumstances and India's role, potential trade deals pose a significant risk to Canada's peace and security. Any bilateral relations must undergo reevaluation and reconsideration in light of BJP-sponsored human rights violations and discriminatory laws impacting religious, ethnic, and Indigenous minorities in India, including activists such as Mr. Nijjar in Canada and worldwide.

- A full public inquiry into this foreign interference incident within Canada must be carried out. Canada must conduct a thorough investigation into the BJP government and its agencies interfering in Canadian politics and civil society. This includes monitoring their influence in Canadian institutions and online platforms, and taking appropriate legal measures to counter their divisive and discriminatory agenda.
- Organizations in Canada affiliated with and funding the RSS must be identified and investigated. Any organizations found to be promoting hate speech, discrimination, or violence should be immediately banned.
- BJP leaders who have publicly called for ethnic cleansing and incited genocidal violence against India’s minority population must be barred from entering Canada under Section 35 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
