May 11th, 2023 (Toronto, ON) - Justice For All Canada, a non-profit genocide prevention organization, has launched a report titled “The Nazification of India”. The report details how the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and paramilitary movement, Rashtriya Swayamsewak (RSS), are drawing inspiration from Nazi ideologies to fuel the persecution of minorities in India, especially Muslims, but also Indian Christians and Dalits.
According to the report, India’s state has systematically targeted Muslims and other minority communities through its complicity in hate speech, mob violence, and discriminatory policies, methods of ‘othering’ and demonization that Jewish populations experienced under the Nazi regime. For instance, the Indian government's Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) discriminate against Muslims and seek to render millions stateless, marking a dangerous escalation of the government’s persecution of the minority community.
“We call upon Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to heed the report's findings and take immediate action to prevent a potential genocide in India. Canada has a responsibility to speak out against human rights abuses, and we urge the government to impose targeted sanctions on Indian officials responsible for such violations, ban the RSS offshoots in Canada, and ensure that any new trade agreements with India prioritize human rights compliance. Despite the extensive documentation of India's human rights record, Canada has remained silent for too long,” said Taha Ghayyur, Executive Director of Justice For All Canada.
The report "The Nazification of India" is the result of extensive research and analysis conducted by a team of human rights and legal experts from Justice for All Canada. Drawing on a wide range of credible sources, including government documents, media reports, and firsthand accounts from victims and witnesses, the report highlights the grave danger posed by a government allowing hate speech and supremacist influences to take root in a society made up of vulnerable minorities. The findings of the report underscore the urgent need for countries like Canada to take action to prevent the worst outcomes from occurring against at-risk communities, in line with international human rights legal standards. Justice for All Canada urges the Canadian government to act on the report's recommendations without delay to ensure that human rights are protected in India and around the world.
