We at Justice For All Canada struggle to address the blatant mass murder of 4 London-based family members on June 6th, 2021.
We join Canadians across the country who are coming to terms with the devastating loss of Salman Afzaal (46), his wife Madiha Salman (44), their daughter Yumna Salman (15), and her grandmother (74). We pray for the full recovery of Fayez Salman, their 9-year-old son, who battles serious injuries while hospitalized.
This reprehensible crime, committed in cold blood, illustrates yet another unimaginable act of Islamophobia suffered by Canadian Muslims.
The 2020 killing of Mohamed-Aslim Zafis, and the 2017 massacre of 6 Quebec Muslims, together with far too many similar events, serve as stark reminders of the importance of dismantling anti-Muslim racism and discrimination.
“This unforgivable attack on the Salman family brings immense grief, pain, and frustration to Canadian Muslims who feel bewildered by this week’s events. The supportive words of Canadian leaders are important, but they alone can’t undo such lethal Islamophobia and racially motivated acts of violence,” said Taha Ghayyur, Executive Director of Justice For All Canada.
In 2019, the police reported 1,946 hate crimes in Canada. Those targeting Muslims rose by 10 percent from 2018.
Justice For All Canada pledges to promote justice for the Salman family, and for all victims of Islamophobia. We consider their killer a murderer and terrorist.
We solemnly join Canadian Muslims in honouring the memory of the family members. We also urge the Canadian government to ensure full reparation, respect and dignity for the slain family.
Justice For All Canada presses for full accountability. We will continue advocating for the Salmans until Ontario’s attorney general lays first-degree murder and terrorism charges against the London perpetrator who callously took their lives.
