Canadian and Palestinian Human Rights Groups to Hold Press Conference Addressing Israeli Siege on Gaza Strip and Occupied West Bank
October 27th, 2023
Justice For All Canada, a nonprofit global advocacy organization, along with partnering human rights and civil society organizations, has announced a press conference on Monday, October 30th at 11 a.m. EST at Parliament Hill to introduce a campaign focused on urging the Government of Canada to call for a ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian life in Gaza, the Occupied West Bank, and Israel.
Date of Press Conference: Monday, October 30th
Time: 11 a.m. EST
Location: 135-B, West Block, Parliament Hill, Ottawa, ON
Speakers:
On Wednesday, October 24, 2023, Minister Joly announced Canada’s commitment to calling for a humanitarian corridor in Gaza to allow for desperately needed aid supplies to reach civilians. While Minister Joly later supported calls for a “humanitarian pause,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Defence Bill Blair stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire. Justice for All Canada, alongside numerous human rights groups and thousands of Canadians nationwide, are highly concerned over the prospect of the continuation of indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Gaza. We are particularly alarmed by suggestions that a ceasefire would restrict Israel's right to respond, potentially leading to thousands more civilian casualties. The latest reports indicate a staggering loss of life, including at least 7,028 Palestinians killed in Israeli military airstrike attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, this figure includes 2,360 Palestinian children in Gaza killed by Israeli forces. More than 100 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied West Bank. More than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel. Justice For All Canada calls on the Canadian government to support the United Nations in calling for “immediate and dedicated efforts to prevent the spread of violence which is increasing the risk of spillover. To advance all these efforts, I appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire now,” as said by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.
Justice For All Canada and people of conscience continue urging the Canadian government for the following diplomatic actions;
