UN Report Warns of Genocide in Gaza: Calls For Urgent Action
November 28th, 2024
Justice For All Canada is heeds a new warning from the UN Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices that the events in Gaza amount to genocide. As an organization committed to defending minority rights and preventing genocide, we call on the Government of Canada to take concrete, decisive measures to halt ongoing atrocities against Palestinians and seek accountability for Israeli leaders responsible.
Speaking to the UN General Assembly on November 18th, 2024, the Committee’s Chair described these atrocities as a direct threat to the global framework of human rights and international law, and that ongoing inaction allows atrocities to unfold unchecked; “A genocide is unfolding before our eyes. Failing to act now—failing to put an end to this atrocity crime— will tear apart the very foundation of the international rule of law we have collectively built to protect peace, security, and the well-being of all. Our inaction today is setting a perilous precedent for tomorrow.”
The Special Committee’s report identifies multiple acts consistent with genocide, including evidences indicating familiar patterns of systematic violations of fundamental international legal norms:
The report also asserts that Israel’s actions violate provisions prohibiting collective punishment and targeting civilians. It finds that they contravene several binding provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in a case brought by South Africa alleging breaches of the Genocide Convention.
Justice For All Canada stands alongside human rights groups in calling for the immediate implementation of a comprehensive two-way arms embargo on Israel, ensuring all loopholes are addressed. We also urge the adoption of robust economic and political sanctions to uphold international law and enforce compliance with the binding provisional measures issued by the ICJ.

The Special Committee’s report identifies multiple acts consistent with genocide, including evidences indicating familiar patterns of systematic violations of fundamental international legal norms:
- Obstruction of humanitarian aid, systematic attacks on aid workers, and the deliberate targeting of civilian populations.
- Weaponizing lifesaving resources, leading to widespread starvation, critical injuries, and mass fatalities. These methods demonstrate an “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinian population in Gaza.”
- Harrowing accounts of sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinian women and girls by Israeli forces.
- Systematic targeting and killing of women and children attempting to flee violence or seek refuge.
- The targeting of hospitals, where mass graves have been discovered.
- Severe restrictions on movement, food, water, and medical supplies, creating conditions that prevent births and cause severe physical and mental harm.
The report also asserts that Israel’s actions violate provisions prohibiting collective punishment and targeting civilians. It finds that they contravene several binding provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in a case brought by South Africa alleging breaches of the Genocide Convention.
