Who is Naledi Pandor?

Born into a legacy of resistance, Dr. Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor is the daughter of a prominent anti-apartheid activist. Widely recognized for her extensive and impactful career in public service, she served as South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation from 2019 to 2024. Her tenure in government extended from 1994 to 2024, during which she also held positions as Minister of Education, Minister of Science and Technology, and Minister of Home Affairs. She pursued an impressive academic journey, earning a Certificate for Continuing Education, a diploma in leadership development, and completing her PhD in 2019.
Dr. Pandor's parliamentary career began in 1994 when she became a Member of Parliament. Over the course of two decades, from 2004 to 2024, she held six different ministerial portfolios, each reflecting her commitment to progress and equality. Her contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Science Diplomacy Award, the Outstanding Educator Award, and Germany's Grand Cross of Merit. Additionally, she has received honorary doctorates from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In December 2023, under Dr. Pandor's leadership, South Africa filed a landmark lawsuit with the International Court of Justice (ICJ), seeking an injunction against Israel for violations of the Genocide Convention in Gaza. Dr. Pandor, who embraced Islam after meeting her husband, also goes by her Muslim name, Nadia. |
